Sonia was born and raised in Oaxaca, Mexico, a place she loves for its rich culture, beautiful traditions, and vibrant community. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy and began her career as a primary school teacher, later serving as the director of an adult education school in Mexico.

Sonia has lived in Oakland for nearly twelve years and has been a dedicated member of the La Plazita community for nine years. During this time, she has worked with children of all ages and supported the program in many meaningful ways. She also spent two years with the Oakland Unified School District teaching Spanish to children ages 6 and 7.

Passionate about education, Sonia continues to expand her knowledge by participating in Child Development classes and workshops. She enjoys bringing creativity, new ideas, and thoughtful teaching strategies into the classroom.

Sonia believes deeply in the power of play, learning through community, and honoring each child’s individuality. She also loves music and enjoys sharing her passion for playing the guitar and mandolin with the children, creating joyful and engaging learning experiences.

Her warmth, dedication, and enthusiasm make her a valued and beloved member of the La Plazita community.
